There are a number of furniture designs that are unique to the South. A Mammy Bench is certainly one. It reflects a time now long ago when the South was a slave-based culture and a Mammy would sit in a rocking bench tending to work, such as cutting vegetables or mending, while having a young child resting on quilts next to her, being lulled to sleep.
