All original, this book press is made of iron. There are some old timers who say this was used in securing the newly glued binding, and others who say this was used to flatten warped books. Both explanations seem reasonable. For some reason, the price of these on Etsy and on 1stDibs hovers around $900. That feels unreasonable. Be careful. This is very heavy.
